THE FOUNDER
My name is Leon Jacob Mlawila, and I was born and raised in Tanzania, Africa. Since 1997, I have been observing and working with birds in Tanzania, particularly around Kilimanjaro. During this time, I successfully captured birds using nets, a crucial technique in bird studies worldwide. My experiences in learning about and watching birds have played a significant role in my personal development. This fascination with flight inspired me to consider pursuing a career in ornithology. As a young man, I had the opportunity to collaborate with an organization dedicated to researching and mapping all the bird species in Tanzania (the Tanzania Birds Atlas). This experience greatly enhanced my knowledge of both local and migratory birds. Currently, I work as a tour operator in Tanzania. Throughout my training and work with birds, I have observed more than a thousand different species. I have dedicated over 20 years to studying the birds of Tanzania, which empowers me to confidently assert that I am an excellent bird guide capable of identifying and showcasing the diverse avian species found in this remarkable country
